Studies have indicated that children whose parent(s) share in their formal education tend to do better in school. Some benefits that have been identified that measure parental involvement in education include:

  • Higher grades and test scores
  • Long term academic achievement
  • Positive attitudes and behavior
  • More successful programs
  • More effective schools

Shepherd Elementary is a great school. We have benefitted from the untold hours donated by “parent alumni”. Now it’s our turn to pay it forward and keep Shepherd the excellent school that it is for our children and future students. Your child’s teacher nearly always appreciate an extra set of hands in the classroom. Also, you can help in the office, cafeteria duty, and any one of a number of PTA initiatives, including (but not limited to) academic affairs, fundraising, the Fall Fest, grant writing, uniform sales, Jazz Night, Family Fun Day in June, the Spring Auction, our Health and Wellness Committee, the newsletter, the Green Team, the Gardening Initiative, the Book Fair, technology and computers, and the Communications Committee. Wherever you think your talents best fit, that’s where you are needed and that’s where you will excel!
