Summer Camp Expo

Join us for the 2nd annual Shepherd Elementary Summer Camp Expo!

Meet representatives from a variety of local camps, ask questions, participate in fun activities, and learn about the array of options for the summer!

The 2019 expo will be held on Wednesday, January 16th from 5-7 pm in the atrium. The January PTA meeting will begin at 6:30 pm, so Shepherd families should feel free to attend the expo and then stay for the meeting (free childcare and pizza for Shepherd students whose parents are attending the PTA meeting will be provided). The Summer Camp Expo is open to everyone (you don’t have to be enrolled at Shepherd ES attend), so bring your friends and neighbors!

Featured Camps

Our featured camps are kindly donating a full week of summer camp to Shepherd’s spring gala and auction.

Barrie Camp

Barrie Camp is an extraordinary environment for summer learning, exploration, and fun! Programming runs June 17 to August 9 and is geared for children ages 4 to fourteen. Choose a Day Camp, Specialty Camp, or Super Camp track. Day Camp provides a comprehensive mix of traditional camp activities, perennial favorites, and fun new offerings. Swimming, nature, sports, art, cooperative games, dance, canoeing, karate, science, music, and archery are just a sampling of Day Camp activities. Specialty Camps offered each week throughout the summer combine a half day concentration in a specific interest area mixed with a half day of traditional camp activities. Specialty Camp selections include Studio Art, Naturalists, Karate, Horseback Riding, and Video Production. Super Camps are one time offerings, providing blasts of fun and learning! Spend half the day in Super Camp programming and half the day rotating through traditional camp activities. Baking Buddies, Ultimate Drone Obstacle Challenge, Game of Codes, Horsemanship, and Off Campus Adventure are a few of the Super Camp selections. Kids Elite Sports, Inc.

A perfect balance between recreation and competitive sports that provides a “Ball of Fun for Everyone” ages 4 -12. Our featured activities include: basketball, flag football, soccer, speed and agility drills, floor hockey, tennis, baseball, kickball, swimming, lacrosse, archery, capture the flag and much more.  Urban Adventure Squad

Urban Adventure Squad (UAS) is a D.C.-based, nonprofit, education organization that supports working families and schools with community-based, hands-on learning programs. UAS partners with community educators, colleges and universities, other nonprofits, and small businesses to create programs that let students learn by doing. We learn about environmental science and stewardship by hiking through Rock Creek Park, fishing in the Anacostia River, and clearing invasive species from local greenspaces; about the arts and arts production by going on behind-the-scenes tours of local theaters, meeting student filmmakers, and taking hip-hop and drumming workshops at local nonprofit organizations; and about local history by hiking through neighborhoods, meeting archaeologists, and visiting local historic homes. Adventures on the Hill

Adventures on The Hill Summer Camp is a District of Columbia Public Schools Approved Program Partner taking ages three years to ten years. We are a traditional summer day camp. At Adventures on the Hill Summer Camp DC, we are all about making learning a fun, hands-on experience that children will remember for years to come. Our well-rounded curriculum lets campers explore their interests in STEM, sports, culture, health and wellness, and more. By providing a variety of interests, we encourage our campers to pursue their passions and dive head-first into their own learning. Locations include Capitol Hill and Takoma. Circle Yoga Summer Camp

At Circle Yoga Summer Camp, kids are encouraged to connect to their bodies, their minds, their creativity, and their camp friends. This is a camp where kids can be kids—free from competition, pressure, and strict scheduling. Through yoga and mindfulness-based activities, campers have fun and they learn skills for reducing stress, fully accepting and valuing who they are, and respecting others. CREATE Arts Center

Join us for summer art camp in downtown Silver Spring! Each week of camp will bring new art adventures. Our experienced teaching artists inspire creativity by teaching a variety of art-making techniques, and by exploring the styles of artists to help our campers draw inspiration for their own art. At the end of the week, each child will go home with a portfolio filled with original artwork! Project types include pottery, sculpture, drawing, painting, cartooning, collage, mixed media and more!  Summer camp runs from June 10 though August 30, 2019. Ages 5-12 (5 year olds must have completed kindergarten to be eligible to register). 13 & 14 year-olds can register as counselors-in-training. The regular camp day runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cub Scouts Pack 24

Learn more about Pack 24, Shepherd Park’s own neighborhood Cub Scouts pack, along with information about summer camp and year-round activities. Art Squared at Highwood Theatre

The Highwood Theatre’s Art Squared summer camp is an engaging, educational, and fun arts experience for any student. The camp explores applications of the arts in the modern world – how do we use art in the 21st century? Led by a team of talented, cutting-edge artists, this camp allows students to problem-solve, experience new and unique art forms, and explore through guided play and question-based learning.​ New This Year: Two levels of 3D Printing, Digital Music, and Photography classes provide an even greater educational experience for students with previous experience in a subject area, or who have attended Art Squared before! Kaizen Karate Summer Camp

Kaizen Karate Summer Camp is a great place for children to explore the world of karate and allows returning karate students to become more skilled martial artists. Our summer camp is open to students of all skill levels. KK Summer Camp gives campers the opportunity to learn material in detail. It also gives them the opportunity to learn and get inspiration from our black belt instructors. In addition to karate, we offer swimming, outdoor sports, exciting field trips, and much more. Campers are encouraged to try new things, challenge themselves, make new friends, and have fun! New and returning students are welcome. Kids and Culture Camp

Campers will embark on a cultural journey that includes the exploration of nature, geography, music, history, foreign languages, art, science, math, exercise, sports, and literature. Sub-themes are incorporated daily to facilitate a fun and culturally stimulating camp experience. Campers also participate in specialty classes such as chess, cooking, and yoga. This summer’s weekly themes and cultures of focus include: Canada’s Captivating Coast, Uganda’s Unique Unity, Trinidad & Tobago’s Tremendous Triumphs, and Indonesia’s Illustrious Islands (July 1-26, 2019). YMCA Anthony Bowen

We offer Traditional, Specialty, Sports, Aquatics, and Travel camps. Campers enjoy all of the best that camp has to offer. Everything from arts & crafts, wellness and exercise, science experiments, possible cooking projects, swimming and field trips. Campers develop a greater passion for the things they love or try out something new! We have something to keep them smiling all week long. Sports camps offer fun-filled sports environment with an emphasis on team work, sportsmanship, and basic fundamentals. Campers are swim tested daily and placed in color-coded groups based on age and ability.
